Britains best value golf courses in the West

TOPS FOR VALUE

Five not-to-be-missed courses in the West…

* Dainton Park, Devon

 You’ve probably never heard of this place but delightful Dainton offers a terrific parkland test of golf and you’ll adore the par-3 8th hole with its virtual island green.

* Wells, Somerset

Not as big as the town’s famous cathedral but it gives it a good run for its money!It’s not long either but it’s tricky and you have to think your way round here. Carefully!

* Limerick G&CC, Limerick

A fine parkland track designed by Ryder Cupper Des Smyth who has created a great combo of holes. You’ll love the hospitality in the unusual circular clubhouse too!

*Stinchcombe Hill, Glos

Wow! An open, exposed links-style course situated on a hilltop and allowing you to see for miles…and miles. It makes a mockery of its modest 6,000 yardage and you’ll need to turn up with your A game.

* Alice Springs, Monmouthshire

It may be in the shadows of neighbouring giants Celtic Manor and St Pierre but Alice Springs – with 36 holes on offer – is a top complex in its own right and well worth paying a visit.
