Golfer misses out on £1m shot

Dad-of-two Michael Applin had ‘an unbelievable day’ when he shot for a £1million hole-in-one at the TopGolf  target range in Chigwell, Essex.

Michael, 39, had three chances to hole out and win the jackpot – with one shot to the 150-yard hole, and two to the 190-yard hole.

The married IT manager, of Theydon Bois, Essex, said: “A really big thank you to TopGolf.

“It was an unbelievable opportunity to shoot for £1million. I genuinely appreciate the support and effort put in by everyone at the range.

“It has been great – and the other gifts are very much appreciated.”

Michael was chosen to ‘Swing for £1million’ when he became TopGolf Chigwell’s one millionth visitor.

And although he failed to collect the big prize, he did not go home empty handed.

He gets free TopGolf for a year, golf clothing and clubs for his children, an iPod Touch and £50 worth of iTunes vouchers.

TopGolf Operations Director James Jenkins said: “It is a shame Michael didn’t manage to sink the hole-in-one. We would have loved to hand over the £1million cheque.”
