Top new course set to open

Heythrop Park – England’s newest golf resort located 30 minutes north west of Oxford near Chipping Norton – is scheduled to open on October 14th.

The £50 million project is a privately owned country estate set in 440 acres of parkland around the former home of the Duke of Shrewsbury.

Heythrop Park Resort will offer unparalleled facilities: 17 luxury guest rooms in the main house and a further 136 guest rooms in adjoining wings. An additional 197 guest rooms including six luxury suites, a theatre, ballroom, 11 meeting rooms, two bars and a restaurant will be unveiled when the new Crowne Plaza opens on site in October 2010.

Elsewhere a Health and Fitness Club including a gymnasium, 20 metre indoor pool, sauna, steam room, treatment room, bar and restaurant opens in October 2009.

The 7,088 yard 18 hole Bainbridge Course was designed by Tom Mackenzie, who has more than 20 years experience in the industry and has advised on 27 of Golf World Magazine’s Top 50 UK Courses.

The layout follows a route over a tree-lined landscape and owes much to the traditional values designer MacKenzie brings to his task.  He says: “I like to create courses that sit comfortably in their setting offering a wealth of shot making permutations, particularly around the greens”.

Heythrop Park will have a maximum of 400 members and will also be open for green fees and corporate golf days all of which can be booked on online through Heythrop Park’s website www.heythropparkresort.com
