There are plenty of cracking courses just outside London – in fact the Home Counties is rife with them, specially when it comes to the royal county of Berkshire.

The dynamic duo of Caversham Heath and Goring & Streatley are both excellent heathland layouts while parkland courses don’t come much better than super Sand Martins.
If you’re after a stay and play option then Donnington Valley Hotel & GC should deliver the goods both on and off the par-71 parkland course.
And if you’re short on time, Datchet, near Windsor, is a splendid nine holer though it’s so good you’ll probably want to play 18 holes!
