Scores Hotel shines at St Andrews

Best Western Scores Hotel, the nearest hotel to the 1st Tee of the world famous Old Course, completed a £300,000 renovation just in time for the recent 150th Anniversary Open at St Andrews.

The refurbishment includes new beds, contemporary flat screen TV’s, renovated terraces, landscaped gardens and 180 metres of traditional Victorian wrought iron railings which combine to give a new and distinctively classy look to this grand old hotel. 

The Scores was probably the smartest address in town when George Rae, the celebrated architect designed Seaton House in 1864 and this now forms a principal part of the elegant terrace along with an 1880’s boys’ school which was converted to an Hotel in the early 1930’s

The Mann family who bought the hotel in 1985  were originally from Glasgow and now have Marriott hotel interests in the USA including the wholly owned Marriott Courtyard in Key West, Florida.

They engaged Eric H Brown, a well known Scottish hotelier as General Manager last July and since then there has been a roller coaster of activity at The Scores

Brown has wealth of experience in the industry, having spent six years as Managing Director of the independently owned Rusack’s Hotel in the early 80’s prior to buying and setting up business at Balbirnie House in the late 80’s.  More recently he has spent 15 years with Stakis and Hilton Hotels running three of their operations in England and Scotland

The Master Plan for development is for an immediate addition of 6 luxury Suites this winter, converting existing space and for a new build wing with 30 high quality rooms and Suites, an additional lift, new offices and improved toilet facilities

A current planning application is lodged with Fife Council for further improvements including a new Canopy at the front of the hotel to improve the main entrance and for two doors to a roof top Terrace which will allow spectacular panoramas of the West Sands and  fantastic views of the Old Course
