Sheff. Wed stars at Beauchief

The Sheffield Wednesday Legends Golf Day will see some of the Owls’ best loved former players, including Chris Waddle and David Hirst, team up at Beauchief Golf Course to raise funds for Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity.

Members of the public are also invited to take part in the special event, which will take place on 28 May. Players will be given breakfast on arrival and enjoy an 18-hole round of golf on the picturesque course, which is set in the historic grounds of Beauchief Abbey.

The golf day will be followed by a four course gala dinner in the Skyline Suite at Ponds Forge, which will feature a prize presentation, question and answer session with Chris Waddle, David Hirst and other special football guests and entertainment from comedian and compere John Stiles.

Chris Waddle, who is also a Golfit member at Beauchief, said: “Everyone knows someone who has been affected by cancer and Weston Park is a well known charity and hospital. It helps everyone including people from Sheffield and all around the area.

“Weston Park is one of only three dedicated cancer hospitals in the UK so we are very lucky to have this facility so close to us. We need days like this to make sure the hospital can continue its fantastic work.”

Andy Carnall, golf manager for Sheffield International Venues (SIV), which manages Beauchief, said: “We are delighted to be playing host to this event. It will be great to see the England and Sheffield Wednesday players coming together alongside members of the public to help support an extremely worthwhile cause like Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity.”

SIV runs four 18 hole golf courses, a nine hole course, a pitch and putt course and practice areas at each course for all ages and abilities. SIV is also home of the golfit membership scheme where members have unlimited access to the four golf courses and four Fitness Unlimited venues.

Golf Day entry for a team of four is £320, or £400 with sponsorship of one of the course holes and signed photo. Entry includes breakfast, golf and the evening reception.

For people wanting to only attend the evening reception, tickets are available for £40 per person, which includes a three course meal and entertainment.
