Celtic Manor hosts football chiefs

The Celtic Manor Resort, host venue of the 2010 Ryder Cup, is preparing to welcome the elite of world football this weekend, with the International Football Association Board (IFAB) choosing the prestigious venue to host its 125th Annual General Meeting.

The IFAB will convene this Saturday in Celtic Manor’s award-winning Convention Centre, with goal-line technology top of the agenda.

This is the first time the IFAB have met since last year’s World Cup in South Africa, during which a shot from England’s Frank Lampard crossed the line against Germany, but was missed by the referee and his officials.

FIFA President Sepp Blatter and UEFA President Michel Platini will be among the IFAB members to descend on the five star resort, which played host to the most dramatic Ryder Cup of all time last October, with Europe securing a tense victory thanks to Graeme McDowell’s putt on the penultimate hole.

Gareth Rees Jones, Marketing and Commercial Director at Celtic Manor, said: “The 2010 Ryder Cup was a real success both on and off the course, and the decision of the IFAB to hold its 125th AGM at Celtic Manor demonstrates the array of facilities we can offer our guests.

“We are continuing to grow the Celtic Manor offering on the back of the Ryder Cup and this meeting is further proof of our international appeal.”

The Celtic Manor Resort has been voted the UK’s Top Conference Hotel for the last four years running by readers of Conference & Incentive Travel magazine and completed a notable industry double this week when it won Best UK Hotel at the Meetings & Incentive Travel awards.

The Celtic Manor Resort, which was crowned 2011 European Golf Resort of the Year by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators, has also been shortlisted for Venue of the Year at the Sport Industry Awards 2011.

Celtic Manor will host a range of international events in 2011, including The Celtic Manor Wales Open from 2-5 June, a leading tournament on golf’s European Tour.
