Festival season tees off in Costa Brava

Festival season tees off this weekend in Platja d’Aro, one of Spain’s most popular resorts and golf locations on the Costa Brava.

It brings together a true mix of worldwide carnival traditions, high-quality golf courses, stunning beaches, sensational gastronomy and picturesque Catalan scenery.

This week, Platja d’Aro’s Carnival, the town’s largest festival and one of the most popular events in Costa Brava, will host more than 4,000 international artists, musicians and performers. The 12-day event will include street parades, theatre performances and music concerts.

Golfers planning to play at the region’s leading golf courses, such as the 36-hole Spanish Open venue, PGA Catalunya Resort – ranked among the Top 10 Courses in Europe and a World Top 100 Golf Course – shouldn’t miss Saturday’s carnival main parade. The Great Cavalcade will consist of more than 70 different floats, street performers and musical bands from all over Europe.

Jaume Marín, Director of Marketing at Costa Brava Pirineu de Girona, said: “Platja d’Aro’s festivals pay tribute to Costa Brava’s culture and history, its love of food and wine, and the worldwide traditions of carnival.

“Every year the town welcomes visitors from all over the world during its festival season. This enables them to take in Costa Brava’s rich heritage, sample the region’s gastronomic wonders, and enjoy the many outdoor activities that can be found between the foot of the Pyrenees and Spain’s Mediterranean coast – including hiking, skiing, cycling and, of course, golf.”

Located on the Mediterranean coast of Spain, an hour north of Barcelona and easily accessible thanks to Girona-Costa Brava Airport – an important Ryanair hub – Platja d’Aro is a stone’s throw from some of Spain’s Top 50 golf courses.

These include Empordà Golf’s Links and Forest Courses, Golf Platja de Pals and the stunning Club Golf d’Aro Mas Nou that offers a unique and sharply contrasted landscape; worth a visit too is one of the region’s oldest courses, Club de Golf Costa Brava, a British-designed course that offers an enjoyable experience for golfers of all standards.

Food connoisseurs can enjoy authentic Catalan cuisine in Platja d’Aro from world-renowned restaurants. Most notable are Aradi, where speciality dishes consist of locally caught seafood, and La Cala Restaurant that serves up traditional dishes and succulent recipes adapted for the contemporary palate.
