Steve gets on bike for charity

Steve Slinger – Group Golf Manager of the Exclusive Hotels chain – is leading one of the most ambitious fund raising campaigns involving more than 200 cyclists set to cover nearly 300 miles this summer to raise more than £30,000 for cancer research.  

He will be joined part of the way by staff, guests and supporters as he faces the daunting task of completing the entire route over four days.

This novel idea is part of the family-owned hotel group’s celebrations with the money raised going to the Macmillan Cancer Support fund and the Springboard charity which enables young and disadvantage people to pursue a career in the hospitality industry.

The underlying reason for this undertaking is to mark a significant milestone in the history of the hotel group by giving back to the industry in which it has become an acknowledged market leader during the past 30 years.

Steve, a qualified golf professional and graduate of the University of Surrey, will lead his contingent over a carefully planned route that will visit Exclusive hotels in Hertfordshire, Surrey, Hampshire, Wiltshire and West Sussex and will also be accompanied along the entire route by Mannings Heath Estate Manager Ian Henshaw.

To get fit for this formidable task, Steve has embarked on a five-month training programme that involves a 25-mile round trip on his bike to work three times a week plus exhaustive sessions on one of the static bikes that will available for staff and guests at the group’s hotel and golf clubs.

Steve says: “I put 100 per cent into whatever I do and relish any type of challenge whether mental or physical. I thrive on competition and thoroughly enjoy working within a focussed and dedicated group. With such a worthwhile cause and celebration it is hard not to be completely motivated”.

It is calculated that the group cycling effort of Exclusive Hotel’s staff, guests and supporters could total almost 19,000 miles during the four-day event that begins at Fanhams Hall Hotel in Hertfordshire on July 20th and ends with a gala diner at South Lodge Hotel in West Sussex on Saturday July 24th.

The Exclusive cycle tour will also visit Lainston House Hotel in Winchester, Pennyhill Park Hotel in Bagshot, the Manor House Hotel and Golf Club near Bath, and Mannings Heath Golf Club in West Sussex.
