2-FORE!-1 six of the best

Around 1,000 courses all over the UK belong to 2-FORE!-1 and offer half-price green fees to 2-FORE!-1 voucher holders. And, once again, here are six of 2-FORE!-1s finest…

*Aberystwyth, Wales – Designed by the legendary Harry Vardon a century ago and sits on a lofty headland with striking views of the coastline of Cardigan Bay, and the Welsh countryside. The views are spectacular from a host of points – you can even see Snowdonia at one point.

It’s a fun undulating parkland/meadowland that’s fairly open and set above the town so it’s also quite exposed. In fact, Aberystwyth plays more like a links course, specially around the greens.

The 14th is a quirky short par-4 to an elevated green and the round unusually finishes with a partially ‘blind’ par-3 screened by trees and OB tight on the right.

*Royal Tarlair, Scotland – This clifftop, parkland course runs parallel to the cliffs for many holes climbing steadily then dropping back before turning seaward at the 13th, the course’s most memorable hole. Seaside scenery is a byword at Royal Tarlair from most holes with a distinct chance of spying Moray Firth’s dolphin pod at play.

*Sand Martins, Berkshire – An ideal venue for a good day’s golf. The quality and condition of the course is exemplary and the layout interesting for golfers of all levels. Not long but always testing, the course has been designed in two very distinct halves; the outward nine set in parkland with lakes and demanding dog-legs while the inward half consists of sand banks, high rivetted bunkers and banks of broom.

*Malahide, Dublin, Ireland – Close to the famous links of Portmarnock and is a great inland alternative to one of Ireland’s most revered layouts. Malahide provides 27 holes (three loops of nine) of quality, gently undulating parkland initially the work of the late great Eddie Hackett.

*Dartmouth G&CC, Devon – Plotted within 225 acres of scenic rolling countryside and an area of outstanding natural beauty. There’s everything you need on-site including an 18 hole championship course, a nine-hole par-33 layout, ten-bay driving range and a splendid value hotel.

*Wychwood Park, Cheshire – A De Vere golfing paradise on the edge of Cheshire and Staffordshire, Wychwood is the home of a quality open parkland layout supported by a luxury on-site hotel.
