Hot air balloon crash lands on golf course

Evening golfers at Verulam GC in Hertfordshire were recently looking to the heavens …and not just for inspiration. A hot air balloon was about to crash land right in the middle of the course!

Actually the giant balloon hit terra firma just behind Verulam’s 14th green close to the 15th tee and club pro Nick Burch conceded: “It made for quite an eventful, exciting evening.

“It was apparently a controlled landing and fortunately nobody was hurt or injured as a result.”

However, such an incident is becoming something of a regular occurrence at Verulam, famed for being the home club of Samuel Ryder, the man behind the Ryder Cup: “We’ve had one or two balloon landings on the course in recent years – I think we must be under the flightpath,” added Bird.
