*Mere G&CC, Cheshire – It’s not known as the ‘Wentworth of the North’ for nothing and this Cheshire cracker definitely doesn’t disappoint.

It’s sheer class with the superb parkland layout designed by legendary duo James Braid and George Duncan in 1934.

The front nine is relatively flat and easy-walking while after the turn the terrain is more undulating and features more dramatic holes, including a thrilling, twisting par-5 finale.

The top-class facilities include a driving range where you warm-up by hitting floating balls into a lake and a luxury brand new on-site hotel.

*Bowood G&CC, Wiltshire – Expectations are high from the moment you drive through the impressive archway and grand gates leading to this wonderful Wiltshire venue. And it’s highly unlikely you’ll leave disappointed by the Dave Thomas-designed course.

* The Warwickshire, Warwicks – This outstanding venue provides excellent all-round facilities with both the Kings and Dukes courses being fit for golfing royalty .

*Gleneagles, (Queen’s course) Perthshire, Scotland – It may be regarded as the third of the trio of Gleneagles courses but the Queen’s is an absolute gem and classic in its own right with some particularly tasty – and testing – par 3s.

*Tenby, Pembrokeshire, Wales – Quality links believed to be Wales’ oldest course and boasts some of the quickest, truest greens you’re ever likely to putt on.

*Moor Allerton, Leeds, West Yorks – Impressive home of three loops of nine and the first course in Britain designed by top American architect Robert Trent Jones.
