The Duke’s named kings of the greens

The Duke’s Golf Club – part of the five red star Old Course Hotel, Golf Resort & Spa in St Andrews – has won the accolade for providing the “best greens” in Britain at an award ceremony recognising ‘Service Excellence’ within golf.
The honour, awarded by 59club – the independent golf analysts measuring service at leading golf venues across the country – resulted from the organisation’s ‘mystery’ visits through 2011, assessing standards across many leading golf resorts in the UK.
Manager at The Duke’s, David Scott, is “thrilled” with the award saying: “This is a real testament to the incredible hard work and dedication from our entire greenkeeping staff led by Derek Robson.”
He adds: “Being in the home of golf, our members and visitors have the very highest expectations when they step out onto our course – and any golfer will know just how important it is for courses to provide the very best greens as part of the playing experience.
“For our greens to be voted as the UK’s best is a terrific honour – especially when we were being measured in the company of courses that have previously hosted major tournaments including the Ryder Cup. It is just fantastic news for the resort.”
Simon Wordsworth, 59Club CEO, said: “The Duke’s totally deserves their accolade as they work diligently within the 59Club scheme to initially improve, and then maintain higher service standards.”
This month, the “best greens” in Britain will also be enjoyed by members of the Scottish Disability Golf Partnership, who are offered the course with compliments once a year to host an annual event which takes place towards the end of March.
