First member signs up to new centurion Club

The opening day of membership sales at the Centurion Club initiated with the club signing its inaugural member – Londoner  Steve Camp had no hesitation in putting pen to paper after touring the course.

Commenting on his decision, Steve said: “This is going to be an amazing golf course and as soon as I saw it I knew I wanted to join. I just can’t wait now for it to open for play!”

The Centurion Club is located on the A4147 on the outskirts of St Albans, and features an outstanding Championship golf course designed by acclaimed English course architect, Simon Gidman.

His belief is that a golf course should be defined by the spirit of its landscape and at Centurion he has created a challenging lay-out which meanders over gently rolling terrain and features four major water hazards and undulating bent grass greens.

The course measures 7,200-yards from the back tees and includes a fine set of diverse short holes. It also closes with a panoramic par-5 which will sit below the clubhouse and is protected by a large lake to the right of the green.

The course agronomy will be overseen by Troon Golf, who manage many of the finest golf courses around the world including Turnberry, The Grove, Troon North and Kapalua.

Centurion Club is owned and operated by an Anglo-Dutch quartet comprising of Chairman Graham Wildish, Managing Director Scott Evans, Bert Pronk and André Hendriks.

Wildish, Pronk and Hendriks all have extensive business backgrounds working in the pharmaceutical, construction and manufacturing industries while Scotsman, Evans, brings 25 years of experience in golf club management at the likes of Troon Golf Club in Arizona, Dubai Creek, Loch Lomond, Bearwood Lakes, The London Club and most recently Troon Golf Management where he worked on numerous European projects.
