2-FORE!-1 six of the best

Six more popular 2-FORE!-1 venues where you can enjoy a special 2-FORE!-1 golfing day out…

* Gleneagles (PGA Centenary course), Perthshire, Scotland – The PGA Centenary will stage the first Ryder Cup in Scotland in 2014 and will almost certainly produce another memorable encounter.

But the layout will have undergone major surgery since Jack Nicklaus’s original design and before Europe and the US do battle. The Golden Bear declared: “This is the finest parcel of land in the world I’ve ever been given to work with.”

*Carden Park (Nicklaus course), Cheshire – Nicklaus courses are usually pretty challenging affairs and Carden Park is no exception though it’s a fair test and by no means the most daunting of the Golden Bear’s tracks.

True, it’s over 7,000 yards off the back tips, but you’ve got to remember it’s a resort course (there’s a luxury De Vere hotel on site along with the more friendly 18 hole Cheshire course) and several tees are available.

*Surrey National, Surrey – A stunning modern clubhouse – it opened in 2003 – overlooks the 18th green and provides grandstand views over the lake and course.

*Mannings Heath (Kingfisher course) -The wonderful Waterfall (members & members guests only) may be the main golfing attraction here but the par-72 Kingfisher, at under 6,000 yards, is a much friendlier proposition.

*Bakewell, Derbyshire – Fun and picturesque – it is in the Peak District after all – nine-hole heathland course with a par of 68 and 18 different tees.

*Dunloe, Co. Kerry, Ireland – Likely scene of plenty of birdies, albeit of the falcon and eagle variety circling above. A cracking little (nine-hole, par-34) course in a stunning Kerry setting.
