2-FORE!-1 six of the best

This week’s look at the some of the best courses in 2-FORE!-1…and why you should pay them a 2-FORE!-1 visit.
*Gleneagles (Queen’s course), Perthshire – It may be regarded as the third course at the legendary Scottish resort but the short holes on the Queen’s are in a class of their own with the 200-yards 14th with its elevated two-tier green being the pick of a classy crop.
*Leeds Castle, Kent – Wonderfully mature nine-hole par-33 parkland layout built on the 500 acre Leeds Castle Estate in 1924 and surrounding the stunning Leeds Castle.
*Lytham Green Drive, Lancashire – A piece of parkland paradise amidst some of the country’s leading links layouts. A three-times Open qualifying venue.
*Dartmouth G&CC, Devon – A splendid all round stay and play venue with some great par-3s – the 2nd is a classic short hole played from an elevated tee to a drop green beyond a pond and is followed by a twisting double dogle par-5 through a slender valley.
*St Pierre (Old Course), South Wales – One of the best inland courses in Wales finishes with an ultra-demanding par-3 over a lake to an elevated, well protected green. A potential card wrecker at the death.
*Buxton & High Peak, Derbys – Scenic par-69 which needs treating with the utmost respect, specially the signature short 8th – wind permitting, you could be hitting anything from wedge to 3-iron!
