Carnoustie classic places still up for grabs

Golfers from across the globe will be descending upon Carnoustie Country in May to compete in the Carnoustie Country Classic.

Organisers have revealed that, although the majority of entries are from golfers in the UK, golfers from as far afield as Denmark, Germany and the USA have also entered this popular tournament, which takes place on four of Carnoustie Country’s Open Championship and Open qualifier courses from May 13-16.

Danish golfer John Kreiner has competed in four Carnoustie Country Classics and is counting down the days to this year’s tournament. “Just like a child before Christmas, it feels as though May will never arrive,” laughs John.

As a devotee of links golf, John adds that one of his personal highlights of competing in the Carnoustie Classic is the opportunity it provides to play on Carnoustie Championship, Monifieth Medal, Panmure Barry and Montrose Medal. “I love the unforgettable challenge of these courses,” he continues.

“I also love knowing that, over the years, so many of the world’s top golfers have struggled almost as much me on these courses!

Also, having played golf in many places across Europe, I’ve seldom encountered such a well-organised, friendly golf tournament as the Carnoustie Country Classic, where each round seems to end with enjoying a pint with old and new friends, laughing and joking about the day’s events!”

In today’s tough economic climate, the tournament’s organisers are finding that the Carnoustie Country Classic’s reputation as a value for money golf tournament is also attracting entries.

The full ‘stay and play’ package costs just £599 per person (based on two people sharing a room), which includes tournament entry fee, green fees for four of Scotland top golf courses, five nights B&B accommodation in the luxurious Carnoustie Golf Hotel, welcome reception, gala prize-giving dinner and daily transport to each day’s courses. Packages are also available for golf and social events only (£399) and for accompanying non-golfers (accommodation and social events only, £329).

The Carnoustie Country Classic consists of a 72-hole stableford competition, with gents’, ladies’ and over-65s’ championship titles at stake, as well as daily individual prizes.

Places are still available and entries are open to men and women golfers, with a maximum handicap of 24 (men) and 36 (women).
