Entries now open for the Scottish Golf Pairs Challenge

The Scottish Golf Pairs Challenge, which takes place from September 2-6 on five of the best of Carnoustie Country’s inland courses, consists of five rounds of highly competitive pairs golf across excellent and testing courses – for only £125 per entry.

“The Scottish Golf Pairs Challenge is extremely good value for money,” said Norman Dyce, one of organisers of the Scottish Golf Pairs Challenge. “It’s played at Blairgowrie Golf Club, host venue for the 2014 Junior Ryder Cup, Kirriemuir and Alyth’s well-established James Braid designed courses and two parkland courses at Strathmore and Glenisla, with the entry fee including a tournament dinner and prizegiving evening.”

Norman explained that The Scottish Golf Pairs Challenge is a four-ball better-ball stableford.

“Pairs can be men, ladies or mixed and the tournament is open to golfers of all abilities, with a maximum handicap of 24 for gents and 32 for ladies,” he continued. “Over the three years it’s been running, the tournament has attracted a high proportion of low handicap golfers, who enjoy the challenge of playing against other good club golfers on courses that truly test their skills.”

As well as offering first class golf, The Scottish Golf Pairs Challenge also benefits from being located in a stunning part of Scotland where there’s no shortage of places to go or activities to do –friendly pubs, hillwalking, historic castles, fishing, mountain biking, shopping, good food.

“There’s also a good choice of accommodation within easy reach of the five courses, which are all within 16-miles of each other,” said Norman. “It’s no wonder The Scottish Golf Pairs Challenge, which this year is a forerunner to the inaugural Carnoustie Country Golf Festival, has such a loyal following.”

Friends Pete Hull and Bill Charlton from Cambridgeshire have been competing in the tournament since the first Scottish Golf Pairs Challenge in 2010.

Fellow competitor Peter Allum lives in Aberdeen and, having previously played in the Scottish Golf Pairs Challenges with his friend Ray, this year, he has a new golfing partner for his visit to Carnoustie Country – his wife, Liz.

“We’re both really looking forward to playing in this tournament,” said Peter. “Five great courses in a beautiful part of the world and in a very, very relaxed and friendly atmosphere. What more could a golfer ask for?”
