De Vere and ISPS Support Unique Blind and Disabled Tournament

De Vere and ISPS HANDA have announced six ‘free’ regional events for blind and disabled golfers offering winners the opportunity to compete at De Vere Mottram Hall alongside golf legends during the ISPS HANDA PGA Seniors Championship.

The Grand Final on Monday 3rd June at De Vere Mottram Hall during the week of the ISPS HANDA PGA Seniors Championship will see finalists enjoy luxurious dining and accommodation in the recently renovated De Vere Mottram Hall.

Furthermore, the top-three finishers in the Grand Final will also be invited back to the course the following day to compete in an exclusive event for Sky Sports featuring golfing legends and sport stars, such as Freddie Flintoff, Colin Montgomerie and Harry Redknapp.

Following the resounding success of last year’s inaugural event, De Vere and ISPS Handa has committed to increasing the number of qualifying tournaments from four to six in 2013.

Each event will be held at one of De Vere’s Resorts in the UK in May, with the top-two players from each qualifying for the Grand Final.

The events will compromise an individual Stableford over 18 holes off full handicap, with nomaximum handicap. The day will include breakfast on arrival, 18 holes of golf, an informal dinner and prize presentation.

There will also be coaching from De Vere PGA Golf professionals and no entry fees for each competitor and up to one carer.

“Alongside ISPS HANDA, we have been able to create a unique opportunity for blind & disabled golfers all over the country,” noted Daniel Hodson, De Vere, Director of Golf. “Their involvement with the PGA Senior Championship for the first-time last year brought a new dimension to the event and we’re delighted that we are able to build on that success.

“Their commitment and investment in increasing golf’s accessibility for blind and disabled golfers is inspiring and mirrors our commitment to developing the game at all levels, including the expansion of these regional blind and disabled events this year.”

Having welcomed the likes of ex-Ryder Cup Captains Ian Woosnam and Sam Torrance, as well as two-time Major champion Sandy Lyle in recent years, the unique event will offer the blind and disabled golfers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
