2-FORE!-1 six of the best

Not sure where to use that precious 2-FORE!-1 voucher? Take your pick from these top notch venues stretching from one end of Britain to the other…

*Celtic Manor (Roman Road), South Wales – Ryder Cup history was made on the Twenty Ten course, but it was the Roman Road layout which first established Celtic Manor as a venue for top level golf.

The host of three Wales Opens from 2005-2007 has since slipped behind its sister track in the pecking order, but the quality remains at the same high level.

Designed by Robert Trent Jones snr, this inland course offers a collection of superb holes – the 8th and 14th are stand-out holes –  while the 18th provides a fitting finale to a memorable round.

*Church Stretton, Shropshire – This par-66 may be short but it can never be accused of being boring and in fact has got to be one of England’s most scenic courses, offering sensational panoramic views.

*North Shore, Lincs – A mixture of links and parkland holes just a mile down the road from the popular seaside holiday destination of Skegness. After a difficult par-5 start followed by a par-4 and a short hole, the layout switches to links before reverting and climaxing with a parkland stretch.

*West Cornwall, Cornwall – Established in 1889, this is the oldest course in the county and one of the finest links in the region.

*Shanklin & Sandown, Isle of Wight – Gem of a James Braid heath-like parkland nature of a course which will appeal to players of all handicaps.

*Edzell, Angus, Scotland –  One of the finest inland courses in the East of Scotland, Edzell is the home of an outstanding heathland layout and a clubhouse serving fantastic food.
