Turnberry launches new Academy

Turnberry has just opened its new golf Performance Academy. This aims to help players maximize their golfing potential by assessing their equipment, as well as physical, technical and mental aspects of their game, in order to achieve individual goals.

“Our contract with Colin Montgomerie finished at the end of 2012,” says Stephen Walker, the Director of Sales and Marketing, “and we had great value from that over the years. What was missing though was the teaching technique element, because Colin wasn’t a technical golfer.”

“Although the idea of a Links Academy was unique when it opened in 2000, there are now a few throughout the world. So, we took a step back and came up with this Performance Academy concept. It is a much more holistic approach, which is designed to be all things to all people.”

There are several components which now make this one of the most state-of-the-art teaching centres anywhere in the world. The TaylorMade Performance Lab has been here since 2010, and now in addition there is a Titleist Performance Institute and a putting lab.

“We understand there is not one perfect swing or one perfect technique,” says Scott Clark, one of the TPI qualified professionals on site. “With the technology available, it’s very much about finding out what each individual can and cannot do.”

Turnberry used to be the ideal romantic spot, to get away from the pressures of life, and enjoy five-star luxury. Now, it has also become the perfect place to overhaul your game, with the help of the newest technology.
