Teenager reigns supreme at top Surrey club

Sixteen year-old, Jordan Flynn, has earned both the title of Burhill Golf Champion and a cut in his handicap after completing the Surrey club’s 36-hole Club Championship in four-under par.

Commencing the tournament on a handicap of three, Jordan set the pace in round one on the historic Old Course, set in the Surrey heather, with a three-under score of 67, to lead by four shots after 18-holes.

With his handicap cut to two, the youngster kept cool under pressure to hold off challenges from Richard Barnes and Lucca Horwitz – who finished second and third respectively – and completed his second round in one-under par, over the New Course, a regular venue for the 888poker.com PGA EuroPro Tour.

Meanwhile, in the Seniors Club Championship at Burhill Golf Club – part of BGL Golf – six-handicapper, Peter Maskell, successfully defended the title he earned in 2012 with a round of five-over par on the Old Course.

David Cook, Burhill Golf Club General Manager, added: “The tees for the second round were placed as far back as they go, which makes the New Course nearly 7,000 yards. This is a stern test for tour professionals who compete here, so Jordan should be very encouraged by his performance.

“I’d like to congratulate both our champions, though it is particularly pleasing to see young talent coming through and competing at the highest level in the club.”
