2009 TaylorMade r7 Limited driver

The incredible new 2009 gear is coming thick and fast and TG are first on the case yet again! TaylorMade, the No. 1 driver brand on Tour have just revealed a sexy new tweak on their Movable Weight Technology drivers. Four years after the first r7 drivers hit the scene, TaylorMade have now come up with the r7 Limited. Not to be confused with the adjustable shaft r7 CGB Max Limited released earlier this year, the TaylorMade r7 Limited driver is set to use moveable weight technology to really boost performance and simplify configuration for golfers.

“The r7 Limited is targeted at r7 driver users, whom we refer to as ‘technicians’ – players who like having the ability to adjust their equipment to promote and improve the quality of their shots,” said Tom Olsavsky at TaylorMade.

So what’s different? Well, the r7 Superquad allowed a left to right change in trajectory of 28 yards but the new r7 Limited increases this to a massive 35 yards change from side to side using just 3 standard weights! (16g, 1g and 1g). Also, the r7 is neutral biased compared to previous draw biased models.

The whole idea is to make moving weights much simpler to understand and our own feedback from readers suggests this will be a big help. TaylorMade tell us that the configuration system is dead easy.. if you want the shot to move right, put the heavy (16g) weight in the toe, if you want the ball to go left, put it in the heel, and if you want to nail it arrow straight then just leave it in the middle!

We’ve yet to get our dirty paws on this beast but from what we can see, the r7 Limited is another sleek and stylish design with a fast looking triangular shaped head, lots of smooth, curvy lines and a particularly striking radium ion-plated finish. Its also longer from face to back than the SuperQuad and has a larger footprint which should inspire added confidence at address and assist the CG for higher and longer flights with less spin.

Right now, this is all theory but you can be sure that as soon as we get the gear, you’ll get the full idea. New TaylorMade kit is coming thick and fast but its all top stuff and packed with the latest and greatest game improvement technology going.

Stay tuned to both magazine and website for more pics, info and our exclusive first hits!

Shafts

The r7 Limited is equipped with a new high-performance 60-gram graphite shaft, the Matrix XCon 5.5 MOI, which incorporates a stability-enhancing weave that extends from the butt to the middle of the shaft. The XCon 5.5 MOI is specifically designed to work in conjunction with today’s larger, high-MOI driver heads to reduce twisting when contact is made toward the toe or heel. The result is improved stability and energy transfer on toe and heel hits, equalling improved accuracy and distance. Available flexes include S, R and M

Lofts

Lofts include men’s and ladies’ 8.5°, 9.5°, 10.5° and 11.5° and men’s left-handed 9.5° and 10.5°.
