Former European Tour Pro Simon Hurd opens new GEL fitting centre

A new GEL fitting centre, specialising in custom putter fitting, has been opened by former European Tour pro Simon Hurd.

The centre, based at Cookridge Hall Golf Club, near Leeds, is the 11th to have opened in the UK & Ireland in just four months.

Hurd completed his training and accreditation with sports biomechanist and putting guru Dr Paul Hurrion, who devised the GEL Fitting Procedure.

And now he is hoping to utilise his experience on tour as well as from his time studying with Dr Hurrion to convince more golfers of the benefits of having a putter custom fitted.

He said: “As a former Tour professional, I fully recognise the importance of getting your putter custom-fit and Paul’s approach is a method that I strongly believe in and understand to be the very best currently on offer in the market.”

GEL Golf, which manufactures GEL Groove Putters, launched the revolutionary new GEL Fitting Centres into the UK& Ireland in June after a tie-up with Dr Hurrion, who first got involved with GEL Golf in 2008 to co-design the GEL Paul Hurrion Signature Range of Putters.

He subsequently developed the unique fitting procedure, equipment and drills using the biomechanical and practical principles that he uses when fitting tour players.

“At the GEL Fitting Centres, pros are able to use the specially-designed tools to analyse a player’s putting stroke and allow him to accurately fit each and every golfer with the most suitable putter for the individual; not only can they ascertain suitable length, loft and lie but also blade against mallet, centre versus heel shaft and face-balanced against toe heavy,” comments Hurrion, who coaches putting skills to the likes of Padraig Harrington, Rory McIlroy and Lee Westwood.
