TaylorMade launches new Titanium R9 fairway wood

TaylorMade has announced the release of a new titanium-headed R9 fairway wood to complete its R9 range.

The R9 Ti features a larger head than the original steel-headed R9 (190cc vs. 165cc) and a lower centre of gravity, which TaylorMade believes will appeal to higher handicappers who struggle to hit the ball off the deck with a fairway wood.

The R9 Ti features more draw characteristics to help the higher handicapper, who traditionally slices the ball.

In addition, the shaft on the R9 Ti is half an inch longer to promote a higher clubhead speed and increased distance.

The R9 Ti, like the original R9, also incorporates FCT (Flight Control Technology) which allows the head to be set in nine different positions to alter loft and lie angle.

“It’s great to have options,” said Tom Olsavsky, TaylorMade’s senior director of metalwood creation. “Many players will prefer the compact head and more penetrating trajectory of the R9 fairway, while others will prefer the greater forgiveness, distance and draw promoting features of the R9 Ti fairway.”

R9 Ti fairways are equipped with a RE*AX 60-gram Aldila graphite shaft. Loft options include: 3-wood (15°), 4-wood (18°) and 5-wood (21°); S, R, M and L flex shafts in right hand only. Available from October 26 at a recommended retail price of £239.
