Peter Hanson’s winning Czech Open clubs

Swede Peter Hanson not only secured his second victory of the season at the Czech Open but he also virtually assured himself of a place in Colin Montgomerie’s Ryder Cup team in the process.

The win catapulted Hanson to number eight in the nine automatic qualifying positions for Monty’s team and means results will have to go against him at Gleneagles in the Jonnie Walker Championship if he is not to make the team.

It also means he is likely to be the only Swede in the Ryder Cup team with Robert Karlsson and Henrik Stenson relying on unlikely captain’s picks.

Hanson is a TaylorMade staff player and his victory was the 39th win for TaylorMade drivers on the worldwide tours this year – more than any other brand.

The win was fueled by remarkably consistent driving, as he finished second in driving accuracy (76.8%) and 16th in driving distance (306.5 yards).

His putting was also much improved. Just a week prior to the Czech Open, Hanson had spent time working with esteemed coach Jonas Wulker at his Harold Swash Putting Studio in Sweden in a serious push to get his putting back on track.

“We did a lot of work on Peter’s posture, which is now much stronger and favours a little more weight on his left side,” explains Wulker. “His confidence at putts of three metres and under is incomparably better than it was before. We’re very hopeful for him getting a Ryder Cup team place. If he does then we’ll be very busy in the weeks ahead working on his greens play.”
