Video buying guide: better-player irons

If you’re a player who doesn’t fancy using big “chunky monkey” game-improver irons but you don’t have the ball striking capability to use a set of blades then there’s a new category of irons for you – better-player options.

These are a fairly new phenomenon in that they give you the shallow head profile and workability of a blade but with some forgiveness in the form of shallow cavities and perimeter weighting.

In fact, so good has this category of irons become that many Tour players have them in the bag. So if you are a decent player but the thought of bigger irons appalls you then clubs such as Nike VR Split Cavity, Callaway Diablo, Mizuno MP-58 or Ping i15 could be the answer for you.

In the video below TG’s equipment team Jonathan Greathead and David Connor discuss the merits of this category of irons and why they do what they do.
