Miguel Angel Jimenez wins in France with new Ping irons

Spain’s Miguel Angel Jimenez has claimed the prestigious French Open title with a brand new set of Ping irons.

Jimenez only put the new S56 irons in his bag last Monday and they’ve become an instant hit for him with a stunning 11-under-par victory, including a weekend which saw him race up the leaderboard with a nine-under-par score.

The S56’s are the follow up to the Ping S57s and we’ll be bringing you more details about them in the next couple of months.

The Ryder Cup star has also just switched to a Ping G15 driver, new Ping Tour-S wedges a Ping Craz-E putter – an equipment overhaul that has undoubtedly helped his game.

The 46-year-old’s closing 67 had a streak of five birdies in six holes (11-16) to grab a two-shot lead before a final hole double-bogey forced the three-man playoff that included countryman Alejandro Canizares. Facing a 15-foot par effort on the first extra hole, Jimenez nailed the putt for his 17th career win. It also vaulted him to 5th in the Ryder Cup standings.

“It will be nice to be on The Ryder Cup,” he said. “At 46, probably this is my last chance to be on the team playing. But I would be very proud to be on Monty’s team.”
