Free golf lessons and custom-fit sessions at The Belfry Open Day

Golfers from across the country are being invited to enjoy free golf lessons and custom-fit taster sessions at the PGA National Academy Open Day at The Belfry.
The four-time Ryder Cup venue, which is also the testing venue for Today’s Golfer magazine’s comprehensive club tests, is opening its doors on July 21, 2010 to showcase the facilities, equipment and tuition to interested golfers.
Deals on big name golf brands will be available throughout the day in The Shop at The Belfry, Europe’s largest on-course golf and lifestyle store, while clubs from Titleist, Callaway, Wilson Staff, Cobra, Ping, TaylorMade, Cleveland, Nike and Mizuno can all be tested on the 34-bay driving range.
All nine manufacturers can be expertly custom fitted in the National Custom Fit Centre meaning that 12,000 different club combinations can be created, including more than 50 sets of irons. Each of the manufacturers regularly updates the Belfry staff on new developments so they are ideally trained to give buying advice.
The Belfry’s team of more than 20 pros will be on hand to provide free tuition clinics, including dedicated junior and short game schools, plus there will be the chance to win fantastic prizes in ‘Longest Drive’ and ‘Beat The Pro’ competitions.
All visitors will each receive free Academy membership worth £50, while the famous Brabazon course is being specially set up to Tour-quality conditions for a special contest to raise money for the Elizabeth Montgomerie Foundation. This will involve Ryder Cup Captain Colin Montgomerie playing nine holes as he attempts to play four different Ryder Cup courses in one day.
“The Open Day is a great opportunity for anybody who plays golf to try out the latest clubs and improve their games at Europe’s biggest and best Golf Academy,” said Gary Silcock, The Belfry’s Director of Golf. “More importantly, it will also show how much fun golf can be, no matter whether you are a complete beginner or a scratch golfer.”
