Mizuno’s gorgeous new MP-63 irons unveiled

Mizuno have announced the release of their gorgeous new MP-63 iron, designed for the better player.

The iron is being launched to replace the hugely successful MP-62 iron, which has performed brilliantly on Tour – most notably in the hands of Luke Donald.

And Donald has been pivotal in the development of the MP-63, which features a Diamond Muscle back to improve vibration at impact.

The goal of the MP-63 was to be an evolution of the MP-62 by improving feel and versatilty without compromising the profile such as head size, topline, offset and sole width).

The result is an iron with the same head length as the MP-62 and a sole and topline that plays thinner but with a bigger sweet area and higher MOI.

Mizuno’s engineers used something called Harmonic Impact Technology (HIT) to study the vibrations of various designs, which affects the sound and feel at impact.

As you would expect, the head is grain flow forged from 1025E pure select mild carbon steel. The irons also feature a flow cavity depth meaning slightly bigger cavities in the long irons while the heads of the longer irons are also slightly larger for increased confidence.

The sole of the MP-63 also features a 360 degree grind on the trailing edge which reduces playable sole width and makes the topline appear thinner without affecting structure.

Chris Voshall, from Mizuno’s R&D dept, said: “Essentially this is everything that was great about the MP-62 – with even more care taken to finely tune its feedback.

“Our Modal Analysis told us that the Diamond Muscle would make a difference to the rigidity and vibration of the head – but to hear that confirmed by the same Tour players that created its predecessor was very reassuring.”

RRP £110 per club
