TG sees the famous Ping man in action

PING test their clubs through a variety of means, and one of those includes the famous PING Man which is based in their impressive HQ in Scottsdale.
PING Man, with the help of a few technicians, swings the golf club in a similar manner to that of a human golfer and a ball-flight system tracks the distance, spin and many other statistics to help engineers develop the next great product.
The machine was first designed by PING founder Karsten Solheim in 1976, and the latest model has been tewaked and tinkered with to offer sensational feedback to the club designers.
On a recent trip to Arizona, TG also saw first hand just how bad some counterfeit golf clubs can be – an authentic G15 driver was fitted, PING Man did his thing, and the ball flew straight as a die down the middle. Then a counterfeit equivalent was loaded into position – the results were shocking, and eye-opening.
The ball ballooned off the clubface, went very much to the right, and about 75 yards short of the authentic G15.
Of course, PING don’t just rely and this machine to do all their testing – they work closely with their talented golfers on Tour to develop new top product, and also their office staff who can provide perfect feedback from a game-improver perspective.
