Wilson Staff legend Harrington to open Sarazen bunker

Two-time Open Champion Padraig Harrington will unveil a new bunker on Prince’s Himalayas course on June 1, in memory of the great Gene Sarazen who won the Claret Jug at the Kent venue in 1932.

Sarazen famously used a self-invented sand wedge on his way to victory at that tournament, and that original hickory-shafted club will be held by Irishman Harrington in the bunker in front of Prince’s club members.

The new bunker is located on the left edge of the ninth green and covers the sand trap that Sarazen played out of on his way to a five-shot victory over American Macdonald Smith.

Harrington is now using the modern day equivalent of that pioneering R-90, in the form of the stunning new FG Tour wedges.
