McIlroy on top of the world with Titleist

Titleist staffer Rory McIlroy became the second youngest golfer ever to rise to World No. 1 after a stunning victory at The Honda Classic.

The 22-year-old held off the challenge of Tiger Woods, despite the American shooting an eight-under-par 62 in Florida – his lowest ever final round score in a PGA Tour event.

McIlroy’s driving was impressive, and he used Titleist’s 910D2 driver throughout the four days – he also had Titleist’s 712 MB irons in the bag, as well as three Vokey Design wedges.

Northern Ireland’s McIlroy fired a closing 69 which was enough to secure victory by two shots from Woods, who looked to be getting back to his best. His approach to the 72nd hole set up an eagle, and his 10-under-par score in the clubhouse set the benchmark for McIlroy,

But the US Open champion held his nerve to secure his first win of the year. A superb up-and-down at 17, with the help of his Scotty Cameron Studio Select Newport GSS prototype putter, calmed the nerves and a solid par up the last sealed the win.

McIlroy was also using Titleist’s famed Pro V1x ball and this early season victory will certainly see him amongst the hot favourites for the first Major of the year at Augusta in just over a month’s time.
