Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano In The Bag: Italian Open Winning Clubs

Spaniard Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano picked up his sixth European Tour victory after he won the Italian Open by two shots from Garth Mulroy.

The 31-year-old had a bogey free final round of 64 – eight-under-par – while South African Mulroy will rue the 6th and 17th, where he picked up bogeys.

Fernandez-Castano said: “It felt like match play out there and I’m delighted to have come out on top. It feels very special to win this tournament again. I knew it would have to be a low round to win and so it proved. The putts were going in today.”

Ryder Cup rookie Nicolas Colsaerts briefly held the lead after he holed a four-foot eagle putt on the 5th but he could only par the back nine as his challenge faded leaving the top two to battle it out.

Gregory Bourdy fired a strong closing 65 to finish third, alongside Matteo Manassero, who hit nine birdies in the final round, with a double bogey on the 4th his only blemish.
