Callaway unveils super-long X Hot fairway woods

When Callaway told us their new X Hot fairway woods had helped give long-hitting Alvaro Quiros an additional 18 yards, we were keen to get the inside story.

Part of the secret lies in the Forged Speed Frame Cup Face which has been made from high strength steel – this is 40% thinner than the RAZR X Black predecessor, but with a 90% larger sweet spot.

Callaway engineers have kept the centre of gravity low to ensure a high ball flight, and the new wave-shaped weighting design inside the head helps to increase the MOI for more forgiveness.

“We are seriously proud of the X Hot Fairway Wood’s design and performance. We think we have set a new and extremely high bar in the fairway wood category,” said Dr Alan Hocknell, Callaway’s SVP of Research and Development.

“The distance gains are for real. In testing with Staff Professional Alvaro Quiros, for example, he gained nearly 18 yards against the gamer in his bag,” added Hocknell.

In addition to the standard version, there is also a Pro model on offer and to help enhance distance even further, the woods will be available with a lightweight Project X Velocity shaft as the stock offering.

INFORMATION: The standard X Hot (£179) will be available in a 3-Wood, 4-Wood, 5-Wood, 7-Wood, 9-Wood and 11-Wood, while the X Hot Pro (£189) will be available in 13.5°, 15°, 17° and 19° loft options.
