Oakley Sign Bubba Watson To Replace Rory McIlroy

Oakley has announced the addition of defending Masters champion Bubba Watson to its tour ambassadors in an attempt to try and fill the void left by world number one Rory McIlroy whose contract expired at the end of 2012.

Watson joins the stylish brand from Travis Mathew, who spoke out to say that the change “had been in the works for some time,” despite Twitter rumours that “the rift occurred because of some sort of ‘controversial’ photo Watson tweeted from Kapalua” in Oakley gear.

Asked on the Oakley website why he decided to join the company, Watson said, “Simple. Oakley gets it. They love the game and they never stop pushing technology to make the game better. Whatever they can do — whatever can be done — Oakley will do it. I respect that.”

Oakley vice-president Scott Bowers added: “Bubba fuels excitement with amazing drives and unbelievable shot making and his personality brings a whole new flavour to the game. There is a synergy between Bubba and Oakley, and our new partnership will light the fuse of what promises to be a major year in golf for the company.”
