Callaway unveil Big Bertha Alpha 815 fairway wood and hybrid

Joining the Big Bertha Alpha 815 driver complete with Gravity Core technology is the fairway wood and hybrid. Both can be adjusted to create the ball flight you want to play, whether you tend to hit them most off the tee or the fairway.

The head of these new woods isn’t big enough to house a Gravity Core. Instead, the fairway wood features a two-weight system on the sole that allows the CG to be moved forwards and backwards. One weight is 30g and other is just 3g. This system essentially plays the same role as Gravity Core, just lying down on its side. Having the heavier weight at the front of the head lowers the spin and creates more fade bias because it is located more toward the toe. Having the heavier weight at the back increases the launch, spin, and MOI.

High ball speed and forgiveness comes from a forged Hyper Speed face cup while the compact head shape offers an appealing look preferred by better players. The fine tune the flight further, it boasts an eight way adjustable hosel for loft and lie angle.

Big Bertha Alpha 815 hybrid

The Alpha 815 hybrid is also aimed at the better player. It has the shape of the standard X2 Hot hybrid, which the Tour pros loved, but with the lower and more neutral flight of the X2 Hot Pro hybrid. There’s speed across the face thanks to the Forged Hyper Speed Face Cup as well as less spin from a low and forward CG position created with an Internal Standing Wave. OptiFit adjustability allows golfers to tweak the loft and lie angle.

Details: Fairway wood RRP £249 in lofts 14°, 16° and 18° with a Fujikura Speeder 665 shaft as standard. Hybrid RRP £219 in lofts 18°, 20° and 23° with a Speeder 865 shaft.
