Yonex unveil new XPG range

Its all about Kinetic Energy say Yonex…harness it and golfers can hit shots further. How? Start by making the clubhead heavier so there’s more mass at impact. Stick that heavier head on a lighter shaft. Then golfers swing at their usual pace but the heavier head travels quicker which directly impacts on ball speeds and ultimately the distance golfers hit shots.

Yes kinetic energy might add distance but the new XPG’s technology doesn’t end there. Yonex’s engineers have also analysed every performance aspect of each club in the range to wring out extra power and forgiveness too. Carbon crown drivers might be seen as “revolutionary” right now but Yonex have been using them since the 80’s. Their crown frees up enough weight to locate an 8g tungsten weight in the sole and further weight inside the head. This along with some clever wider but higher head geometery optimises the cg location for a blend of power and forgiveness. There’s also 20g of tungsten powder in the top of the grip which acts as a counter balance to control swingweights and an adjustable 8 position hosel (in the driver, fairway and hybrid) which allows loft changes of up to +/-1.5 deg and face angle changes upto +/-3deg.

Yonex’s concept isn’t limited to woods either. A new XPG Iron benefits from the same kinetic energy treatment. Stronger chromoly steel faces in the 5, 6 and 7 irons increase rebound and ball speeds. A double undercut cavity allows the face to be 0.5mm thinner and a new channel at the bottom of the cavity increases face flex even further. Finally a new 3d sole design reduces resistance at impact by 20%. Effectively meaning you impact the turf with a sole the size of a muscleback but get the performance benefits of a cavity back.

Expect to see the range in good golf stores from the end of October with prices from £249 Driver, £189 Fairway, £159 Hybrid, Irons will be available in graphite shafts from £699 and KBS’s steel C Tapers from £599.
