Dunhill Links: New forged Ping irons appear in Louis Oosthuizen’s bag

New, mysterious forged Ping iron appears in Louis Oosthuizen’s bag

Louis Oosthuizen rolled into the Dunhill Links Championship with a set of previously unseen set of Ping irons.

Oosthuizen tweeted on Tuesday about how happy he was to be testing his new prototype ‘Blueprint’ irons at St Andrews, Kingsbarns and Carnoustie this week. And from what the world #36 said it looks like he’s been working on them with the company for some time.

Forged irons and Ping aren’t easy bed fellows as most of the brands irons over the years have sported cast heads. In July 2018 though the brand broke from tradition and introduced the new i500 players iron which has a forged face and cast body, and we’re wondering if Oosthuizen’s new irons go one step further with an entire forged head.

Just like the i500s the ‘Blueprint’ appears to have toe screws, usually meaning a hollow head, which would likely give Oosthuizen extra forgiveness over his usual Ping iBlades.

Ping aren’t ready to make any comment just yet, we’ll keep you posted when they do. We did manage to sneak a closer look at them though, just watch the video below
