Xander Schauffele shot a course record-tying 11-under 62 on Sunday to win the Sentry Tournament of Champions by one shot in Kapalua – and he did it with a whole host of new clubs in the bag.
Callaway only launched their new Epic Flash driver last week, but Schauffele used one (set at 9 degrees, with a Graphite Design BB 7X Shaft) to gain its first victory of the year. The driver, which features ‘Flash Face’ technology developed by Aritificial intelligence and their new $5million super computer, is the first of its kind (find out more here).
“There’s never been anything like Flash Face before in golf equipment, and the effect on performance is intense,” Alan Hocknell, R&D boss at Callaway said about the new Epic Flash face technology.
Also in his bag were the brand new Apex Pro 19 irons, which are Callaway’s first ever forged Tour performance iron with advanced distance technologies. According to Callaway, Schauffele is ‘particularly fond’ of the new Apex Pro 19s, having played with a prototype version of them towards the end of last season and during his WGC win.
“Xander has told Callaway Tour Reps that the weighting through the turf feels great for him, regardless of the course conditions. He also likes the look of the thin topline and the leading edge on the iron, and he’s very comfortable with the distance consistency, the window of the ball flight, and how he can shape shots.”
