Luke Donald – Player Bio

Luke Donald made history last season, winning the money titles on both the PGA and European tours, despite playing fewer events than the players he was competing against for each tour’s title.

During his 19 PGA Tour events he pocketed $6.7 million, $400,000 more than runner-up Webb Simpson who played 26 events.

The Englishman managed the feat by averaging an impressive 68.9 strokes, including a final round average of 68.1. He also knotched-up 14 top-10s and two wins.

On the European Tour Donald played six less events than teammate Rory McIlroy but still clinched the crown thanks to a run of finishing 11th or better in 11 events, including six finishes of third or better and three wins.

The most important of those wins may have come at the BMW PGA Championship, where he defeated Lee Westwood in a playoff, taking control of the world’s number one ranking.

Donald’s strenth lies in his putting, where he has led the strokes gained statistic on the PGA Tour for the past three years.

Since 2011 he has only won twice, when he claimed the Transitions Championship on the PGA Tour and successfully retained his BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth. Otherwise Donald has had a steady 2012, with the highlights coming in the form of a T-5 finish at The Open, T-8 at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitatitional and a T-10 finish at The Barclays.
