Ask the experts: Peter Alliss

We ask four members of the BBC commentary team to offer their insight on this year’s Open Championship.

How does Royal Lytham differ from other courses on the Open rota?

Lytham is not your usual links, because the sea’s receded, so when you get up high it looks as though you’re on a housing development with a railway running through it. But it’s absolutely wonderful, one of my favourites after St Andrews.

What is the key to winning at Lytham?

The key is a little bit of everything. You need to drive well, putt well, stay out of the bunkers and have a bit of luck.

What sort of chance does Tiger have?

He has a chance but his odds should be no lower than 25/1.

Which Brits should we look out for and why?

Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell are leading the charge from Northern Ireland and we’ve also got Luke Donald, Lee Westwood and so on. There are so many top British players at the moment. Just look down the list and take your pick.

Finally, who is going to win?

I haven’t got the faintest idea. If I did I would be down the bookies!

The 2012 Open Championship is live across the BBC from 9am Thursday, July 19, on TV, HD & Radio 5 live.
