Use divots to check your swing path

“Well Paul, you do have a flattish backswing and a naturally quick rhythm but always remember you don’t hit it with the backswing.

“Your downswing path and clubface are what control the direction of your shots so check your divots for evidence of which path the the club is travelling through impact and check your grip too as it has a big influence on the clubface.

“Regarding the backswing, if you want to gradually work it a touch more upright, set up with your backside about a foot away from a hedge and develop the feeling of your wrists ‘cupping’ and setting the club a little steeper without hitting the hedge.

“At the top your left thumb will feel more ‘under’ the shaft, this will help and set the club more on line. Good luck.”
