Handicap Tracker: Score well down the stretch

In association with American Golf

We all know what it’s like to have put 15 great holes of golf together and feel like you’re just hanging on down the stretch to protect your score.

More often than not, this is because fatigue has set in, which makes it harder to concentrate and make a solid swing.

Recent stats from Handicap Tracker show that this is a problem for quite a few golfers. Perhaps getting back into four-and-a-half hour rounds is tougher than expected after a long cold winter of little golf.

This pair have certainly found mainting their form until the final putt drops difficult in recent rounds:

» David Wilson (11.7) shot an 85 at College Pines for 36 points but finished of 7, 5, 8 on this final three holes.

» Alan Smith (18.5) had a similar experience at Reading GC with 7s on the 9th and 10th and a finish of 8, 6, 7 for a gross 90.

If you find yourself tiring over the last few holes and your scores suufer as a result, the key to improving and saving shots is to improve your fitness and stamina.
