Handicap Tracker: Hit better tee shots

In association with American Golf

Handicap Tracker statistics suggest that you need to hit 75% of fairways if you want to break 80, 50% to break 90 and just 20% to break 100.

Although it’s still possible to make a good score without hitting fairway, it undoubtedly makes the job a lot harder and finding the short grass off the tee enable you to attack the hole for birdie rather than chase a par.

Four Handicap Tracker users played some great golf off the tee on the way to some cracking scores:

» Jeremy Hutchins (13.3) shot 79 at Ramsey GC with 11 from 12 fairways for a 0.6 handicap drop.

» Dave Harper (14.1) shot 83 at Whiston Hall GC with 13 from 14 fairways.

» Paul Merett (22) shot 96 at Belfairs GC with 12 from 13 fairways, but his handicap remains unchanged.

» Matt Ray (10.6) shot 81 for a 0.4 drop at Rother Valley GC with 12 from 15 fairways.

But this pair struggled to find fairways and their scores suffered as a result:

» Peter McCready (18.8) shot 93 at Millbrook GC with just 1 from 15 fairways and saw his handicap increase by 0.1.

» Philip Walker (25.2) shot 96 at Aylesbury Park GC with only 1 of 12 fairways hit.

If you want to make sure you find the fairways off the tee and give yourself the best chance of making a good score, this video tip from TG Elite Pro Nick Clemens will teach you to maintain your angles in the swing to hit more consistent and longer drives.
