Handicap Tracker: Find more fairways

In association with American Golf

It’s hard to make good scores when you’re struggling to find the fairway off the tee but it’s an area many golfers struggle with.

Some of this week’s rounds on Handicap Tracker starkly demonstrate the importance of finding the short grass.

Three golfers found plenty of fairways and were able to convert this into good rounds:

» David Jolly (7.9) hit 10 of 14 fairways on his way to an 80 at Deangate Ridge GC for 35 stableford points.

» Paul Gardner (8.5) shot 77 at Sennelgar for 41 stableford points, also hitting 10 of 14 fairways.

» Andrew Stonehouse (23.7) recorded a magnificent 44 stableford points courtesy of an 87 and 12 of 14 fairways at Scalm Park GC.

This pair, however, struggled to hit fairways:

» David Veitch (15.5) only managed three of 14 fairways at Parklands GC and shot a gross 89.

» Daniel Coldrick (24) also only hit three fairways at Brandhall GC and finished with a 91.

If you struggle with wayward drives, here is a tip from TG Elite Teach Pro Gareth Johnston that will show you how to control your breathing to hit more fairways.
