“Thanks for sending in the video of your swing. The main problem I see with it is poor posture.

“When it comes to golf, a good player stands with a balanced, athletic posture ready to wind up the body for a powerful swing.

“An important fundamental of a good swing is a good turn of the shoulders, and to turn the shoulders well you need to have a neutral spine.

“Look at the stance and posture of a tour pro and it is clearly visible how straight the spine is, but if you study a club golfer often their shoulders are slumped and the top of the spine is bent excessively forward. This poor posture gives you no room to swing the arms freely.

“To improve your posture you should stand up straight looking forward and be aware of the gap between your chin and your chest.

“Take hold of a golf club and hold it out in front of you. Bend from the hip sockets and place the club behind the golf ball. Keep your head in the same position relative to the spine. Relative to the spinal angle the head should have hardly moved.

“As you bend forward correctly it will feel as though your backside is sticking out. Finally, flex the knees to achieve a balanced posture.

“When swinging, turn around your spine for a much more athletic swing with more power, and consequently longer and more accurate shots.

“You must be athletic and balanced in your set up if you are to have any chance of making a quality swing.”
