TG Blog: Rollercoaster ride

Friday 4th February

“Two weeks is a long, long time in golf. It’s been a rollercoaster ride of emotion, and sometimes my swing has resembled a fairground ride too!

“Let’s start with the high which was undoubtedly meeting and playing golf with Ladies European Tour player Tara Dayer-Smith. For her to agree to play with me was a treat, for her then to show compassion and understanding while I couldn’t string two decent shots together was beyond the call of duty. The experience is one I’ll never forget; even if my golf is better forgotten.

“And that is pretty much how it’s been recently; good and bad mixed up in fairly equal measures, a personal best one day and a round of endless frustration the next.

“The inconsistency comes from two sources. Technically, my swing is nearly where we want it to be but sometimes reverts back to what my body finds easiest rather than what it is being trained to do. Mentally, I put too much pressure on myself on the course and don’t allow my full potential to show; my brain gets in the way of my body.

“Which brings me to my tip for anyone trying to improve their golf; make sure you are clear what your target is and how you are going to achieve it, but it may be best not to tell the whole world what you’re up to!”
