rules changes

New rule changes have been announced today and one of the major changes sees a victory for commonsense.

Up until now a player has been penalised a shot if his ball moves after it has been addressed. And many top players have fallen foul of this, including Padraig Harrignton at The Masters in 2010.

The new rule states that a player is exonerated from penalty ‘if the ball moves after it has been addressed when it is known or virtually certain that he did not cause the ball to move.’

There has also been changes relating to players being late to the tee for a starting time. If they arrive within five minutes of the allotted time, they now get penalised two shots and not disqualified.

There are other minor changes to the rules of golf that will now be in effect fior the next three years.
