England cricketer gets a lesson from former Masters Champ

England fast bowler Stuart Broad took some time out before the first Investec Test match with the West Indies to work on his golf swing with the help of 2011 Masters Champion Charl Schwartzel.

The South African was helping out Broad and a couple of the other England players on the range at the picturesque Brocket Hall.

“I was an opening bowler at school,” revealed Schwartzel. “My dad coached me a little bit but steered me away from cricket because there’s some bad habits I could get into that would affect my golf. Golf to me was always number one.”

Since his lesson, Broad had the best bowling performance of his career in the first Test match at Lords, taking 11-165 in the match, including 7-72 in the first innings.

“It’s a huge joy to get some tips from a Masters champion,” said Broad. “For me it’s all about slowing the swing down. Much like when I’m batting I try and hit the ball too hard. I’ve learnt a lot today and hopefully I can put it into practice on the course.”

The second test match begins on Friday, 25 May at Broad’s home ground of Trent Bridge. Take a look at Broad’s lesson and his golf swing below.
